The Pharmaceutical Society NI welcomes the report published by the UK Commission on Pharmacy Professional Leadership which highlights the importance of effective professional pharmacy leadership in the development of the pharmacy profession into the future and the crucial link between the regulatory bodies and the profession.
As the regulator, we recognise the importance of working closely with the pharmacy profession to ensure that, while regulatory standards and guidance continue to protect the public, they also enable the empowerment of pharmacy professionals to continue positive innovation and development within the profession. We are in the middle of a period of significant development and reform for the pharmacy profession and the regulation of pharmacy. It is extremely important that pharmacy professionals and regulators work together in their respective roles, to ensure high quality services and public protection.
Effective pharmacy leadership is essential in this process and the report explores key themes around leadership which are important for the public, pharmacy professionals and regulators to consider in our continuing work to ensure public safety and to positively transform health across Northern Ireland.
