Cathy Harrison, the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, issued a letter on 14 January 2021 to registrants with the Pharmaceutical Society NI asking for pharmacists with any spare capacity to help their professional colleagues in the hospital and community pharmacy sectors.
Cathy Harrison commented:
The New Year has brought great hope with the start of the Covid-19 vaccination programme and pharmacists and pharmacy teams have been a major part of the successful roll out to date. The vaccination programme is the best chance to end this crisis but its implementation is coinciding with a spike in infection and pharmacy services are again under immense pressure.
It is in this context that I am calling on those of you with any spare capacity, even for a morning, afternoon, evening or full day in any week, to help your professional colleagues in the hospital and community pharmacy sectors.
If you are interested in supporting hospital pharmacy services in HSC Trusts, including the vaccination programme, please register at www.hscworkforceappeal.co.uk/ If you can assist in community pharmacy please contact Natalie Mulholland at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need support to return to practice NICPLD has a range of learning materials intended to support you that you can access via their website www.nicpld.org
I understand that this is a significant ask, I know that you are tired and I fully appreciate the challenges that all sectors are experiencing but at this time any help that you can provide could make a big difference to keeping our pharmacy services going. I ask that you give this request careful consideration.
