New legislation, the Pharmacy (Responsible Pharmacists, Superintendent Pharmacist etc.) Order 2022 which relates to the responsibilities of Responsible and Superintendent Pharmacists, came into effect on the 1 December 2022. The legislation also gives additional powers to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society NI to make regulations and regulatory standards.
We have issued a letter to all pharmacists which outlines the changes that came into effect from the 1st of December 2022, and other aspects of the legislation that will lead to changes to the responsibilities of Responsible and Superintendent Pharmacists in the future. We have clarified the responsibilities which remain in place, pending the future changes.
