75th Anniversary of the NHS

Today, 05 July 2023, the National Health Service will mark the 75th anniversary of its founding in 1946. 75 years ago, the key aim of the new NHS was to provide all with healthcare, free at the point of delivery. Along with other healthcare professionals, pharmacists played and still play a vital role in this great achievement.

Speaking today, Dr Geraldine O’Hare, President of the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, said,

“On this momentous anniversary, the Pharmaceutical Society NI, along with many others, celebrates this wonderful occasion and thanks everyone, especially the pharmacists and those that work in pharmacy teams, for their commitment and dedication to the health and wellbeing of the public.”

“Over these past 75 years, the NHS has faced many challenges and undoubtedly there will be other challenges ahead.  However, all pharmacists in our healthcare system, whether in hospital, community or in GP practices, can be justly proud of all they have achieved over these last 75 years.”
