For Pharmacists
To confirm whether a Pharmacist is currently registered with the Society and therefore able to practise in Northern Ireland, you can search our Registers. This is updated daily and is the most up to date reference for the public and employers on the status of Pharmacists registered within Northern Ireland. Displayed is the Pharmacist’s name, the date they were registered, registration number and any relevant additional information, including if a Pharmacist is registered as a prescriber. Registration details are based on initial registration with the society and updated annually or on notification by a pharmacist. A pharmacist should practise under their registered name and this does always not reflect marital status
If a Pharmacist is not on our register they are not eligible to practise in Northern Ireland. It is incumbent on all pharmacist employers, pharmacy superintendents and contractors to ensure that all pharmacists employed are registered in Northern Ireland.

IP = Independent Prescriber
SP = Supplementary Prescriber
R = Reciprocal Registrant
EU = European Registrant

For Pharmacies
All premises from which a pharmaceutical service is offered to the public are registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and any amendments made post initial registration (including relocation of premises) are notified to the Society and the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) Pharmaceutical Inspectorate for approval. Inspection by the DHSSPS must occur before registration is recommended to the Society. The Society displays the pharmacy’s trading name, address, registration number and telephone number. We also post a monthly update of changes to the premises register. To view these changes click here (insert link).
You can search the Pharmacy Register by entering the trading name and/or the town it is situated in.
For example to view all Boots registered in Northern Ireland type Boots into the first search field and leave the second search field blank, however if you wish to view all Boots registered in Belfast then type Boots into the first field and select Belfast from the dropdown menu displayed in the second search field.
