The Society is governed by the European directive on the free movement of pharmacists in the European Economic Area. Please click here for a summary of this directive. Currently the Society does not recognise pharmacy qualifications obtained outside the EEC area. This is an issue we are to review.
Currently to register in Northern Ireland it would first be necessary to contact the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), in London, who offer qualifying courses to overseas pharmacists (OSPAP) at five university locations in GB. An applicant would then have to complete the pre registration requirements, which is one year in either GB or NI and then register in Great Britain or Northern Ireland depending on where the pre registration training was undertaken.
