C W Young Fund
The CW Young Scholarship Fund was established to recognize the services given by Mr Charles William Young, who was Head of the Department of Pharmacy at Belfast College of Technology from 1929 to 1960, to the education of pharmaceutical chemists. The fund is held in trust by the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and the scholarship is awarded by the Council of the Society to support research work related to work within the School of Pharmacy, Queen's University of Belfast (formerly Belfast College of Technology).
Applications for funding are sought via the local pharmacy press in May each year for distribution after the September Council meeting.
Any one applicant can be funded to a total value of £10,000 over a maximum of 3 academic years. No more than £5000 will be awarded in any one year from the Fund.

The Fund
- The C.W. Young Scholarship Fund was established to recognise the services given by Mr Charles William Young (who died in 1963) to the education of pharmaceutical chemists.
- The fund is held in the Trust by the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, the income from which is available to the Society for the advancement and encouragement of the pharmaceutical education
- Distribution of income from the Fund is at the discretion of the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
- Application for support from the Fund is restricted to members, associates and students of the Society.
- Support from the Fund takes the form of prizes, research scholarships and other scholarships related to work within the School of Pharmacy, Queen's University Belfast (previously the Pharmacy Department, Belfast College of Technology)
Application for support
- Applications for receipt of funding are sought, via the local pharmacy press and/or via the Society website in May each year for distribution after the September meeting of the Council.
- An application form is available from the Society headquarters and all applications must be made using the official form.
- Each application will be sent for indepentant academic review prior to its consideration by the House and Finance or equivalent committee, who will make a recommendation to the Council regarding the award (or not) of the funding requested. (The Council reserves the power to reduce the amount of award from that requested; The Council's decision is final and there is no right to appeal)
- Any one applicant can be funded to a total value of £10, 000 over a maxium of 3 academic years.
- Applicants will be given feedback on the outcome of their applications by mid-October in the year of their application.
- The Society will take steps to ensure that the funds are being used for the purpose requested through the receipt of reports on the usage of the funds. The frequency of such reports will be project specific. Details of the reporting requirements (and accounting details as appropriate) will form an integral part of the grant letter for successful applications.
- The Society will dispose of no more than £5, 000 in any one year from the fund.
