The Society is currently seeking updates to its governing legislation. These updates will bring the Society into line with our counterparts in other regulated Healthcare Professions, whilst maintaining our unique position as a Northern Ireland Regulator.

The legislative changes being sought will modernise the structures and the remit of the Society. The key areas being reviewed are; 

 

 

·     The composition and appointment of Council, seeking independently appointed registrant and lay members

·     Increasing the range of sanctions available to the Statutory Committee and broadening its membership

·     Making CPD a statutory requirement and the creation of a non-practising register

·     The compulsory regulation of Pharmacy Technicians.

 

 

The Society and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety are currently working on these improvements and it is hoped that these will be laid before the Northern Ireland Assembly later this year (2009)”
