Mission Statement

The Pharmaceutical Society exists to register, regulate and develop pharmacists and to promote the pharmacy profession within Northern Ireland, ensuring public safety and addressing public concerns.

It is a criminal offence for someone to practice pharmacy, or claim to be a pharmacist, in Northern Ireland without being registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.

Purpose of the Society

The main purpose of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland is to maintain the register of all the qualified pharmacists within Northern Ireland, and to regulate their practices.

The legislative objectives of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, under the Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 are:

  • To advance chemistry and pharmacy
  • To promote pharmaceutical education and the application of pharmaceutical knowledge
  • To maintain the honour and safeguard and promote the interests of the members of the Society in their exercise of the profession of pharmacy
  • To execute all such functions as may be entrusted to the Society under an enactment
  • To provide relief for distressed persons
